Fulham Liberal Democrats have been undertaking surveys of residents to assess priorities for future spending on roads, and the level of support for a 20mph speed limit. Residents were invited to respond by post, but on 7 March we had an unusually high level of responses from the residents of Shottendane, Elmstone and Harbledown Roads (near the junction between Fulham Road and Parsons Green Lane), who completed and gave their surveys straight back to us. 15 people, including supporters of all the major parties, responded immediately. The results are striking:
There was strong support for restrictions on through-traffic, including lorries. Residents told us the through-traffic was very fast, that the roads were too tight for two-way traffic. Others highlighted the danger to pedestrians, including children on the way to school. These results strongly suggest that the Council should be consulting on introducing a 20mph speed limit in this area, and on other urgent changes to deal with the serious traffic and highways problems in these streets, such as litter and dog faeces. Residents told us that their association has been campaigning for action for some time. Residents who want to support our campaigns to make residential roads safer and more environmentally friendly can contact Fulham Liberal Democrats via infol@hflibdems.org.uk
